Biography

Katie graduated from Brunel University and was awarded the prestigious Griffin Prize for Music. In her final year at University, Katie formed a percussion group for which she wrote music using unconventional instrumentation. The percussion works were so well received, that she decided to continue the project with fellow percussionist Dave Smith from which the duo 'Bang On!' was formed.

Bang On! has become a popular and well-established group which performs shows and runs workshop worldwide. As part of a hectic schedule, some notable performances since 2006 include supporting the Dresden Dolls on the European leg of their tour, enjoying a sell-out theatre show at the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, reaching the 2008 semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent, completing a tour of Taiwan TamSui Arts Festival in late 2011 and most recently, running workshops in Mumbai, India.

Aside from Bang On!, Katie has played with a host of different performers including Jamie Cullum (in his video 'Mind Trick') and Swedish popstar Robyn at Radio 1's Big weekend (formerly known as Radio 1’s Big One). Her musical versatility extends to having performed at Glastonbury with renowned Children's entertainer Herbie TreeHead and on the Disney channel with Girl Band Serese. Other performance work includes accompanying various London-based singer-songwriters and performing with Punk Pop duo Minus One with whom she drums and sings. In 2012, Katie also performed in 'Survivor' at the Barbican which was the sell-out project of the highly acclaimed Hofesh Schechter and Antony Gormley.

Katie has undertaken a variety of recording and session work including Girl Band Serese EP 2006, sessions with Soham Comrades Brass Band 2008, Cambridgeshire County Brass Band Christmas Album 2009 and performing across London with American Afrobeat sensation Toli Nameless 2010.

Besides her performing and session work, Katie teaches Drum Kit, catering to all ages and abilities across SW London, both on a one-to-one basis, in small groups and in workshops. Katie seeks to develop her pupils’ learning experiences by hosting annual drumming workshops featuring key drumming professionals where possible.
